Small exterior problems often go unnoticed until they turn into expensive repairs. A loose shingle, cracked siding, or clogged AC unit can quietly cause damage or reduce efficiency.

This week’s checks take about 5 minutes and can help you catch problems early before they become costly fixes.

🛠 Weekly Home Maintenance Check

This week take 5 minutes to check these:

1. Inspect Your Roof (From the Ground)

You can’t really fix roof damage from the ground, but catching it early prevents leaks and allows inexpensive repairs before major damage occurs.
Walk around your house and look for missing or lifted shingles, dark patches, sagging areas or shingles in your yard after storms.

2. Check Exterior Siding

Damaged siding can allow water and pests to get behind your walls. Small cracks can eventually lead to rot or mold inside the structure.
Small gaps or cracks can often be sealed with exterior caulk to prevent water intrusion.

3. Check Your AC Unit

Make sure the unit has at least 2 feet of clearance around it, remove leaves, grass, and debris around the unit.
Look for bent fins or visible buildup on the outside coils and use a garden hose to gently rinse debris off the exterior coils (power off first).

⚡ 10-Second Fix

If your refrigerator isn’t sealing properly, wipe the rubber door gasket with a damp cloth. Dirt buildup often causes weak seals and makes your fridge work harder.

🧰 Tool I Actually Use

A small pair of binoculars makes roof inspections much easier without climbing a ladder. You can quickly spot missing shingles, damaged flashing, or debris buildup safely from the ground.

💰 Tool Deal of the Week

If your AC fins are bent, a fin comb can straighten them and restore airflow. It’s a cheap tool that can noticeably improve AC performance.
