Many plumbing issues start small and go unnoticed until they waste water or cause damage. Take a few minutes this week to check these three things.
🛠 Weekly Home Maintenance Check
This week take 5 minutes to check these:
1. Check Your Dryer Vent
Go outside and locate your dryer vent outlet, turn the dryer on and check that air is blowing strongly and look for lint buildup around the vent hood.
Get yourself a dryer vent cleaning kit and insert the brush into the inside of the vent to push dryer lint out of the vent. (Be sure to follow instructions with your kit)
2. Inspect Outdoor Hose Bibs
Turn the outdoor faucet on, look for water leaking around the handle or connection and check the wall area for dripping water.
A leaking hose bib can often be fixed by tightening the packing nut slightly with a wrench. Replacement seals sometimes are needed.
3. Check Deck Boards for Damage
Walk across your deck and feel for soft or bouncy boards, look for cracked wood or protruding screws and check areas near railings and stairs.
Tighten loose screws or replace damaged fasteners before boards begin to shift.
⚡ 10-Second Fix
Flip a ceiling fan to counterclockwise for summer. This pushes air downward and helps rooms feel cooler.
🧰 Tool I Actually Use
A long flexible brush makes it easy to remove lint buildup inside dryer vents and helps your dryer run more efficiently.
💰 Tool Deal of the Week
Quickly measure rooms, walls, or spaces in seconds without a tape measure. A super handy tool for DIY projects and home improvements.
Next Week
Next week I’ll show you how to:
• Inspect deck flashing for water damage
• Check attic insulation gaps
• Clean bathroom exhaust fans
PS: If you found this useful, forward it to someone who owns a home.
