Many plumbing issues start small and go unnoticed until they waste water or cause damage. Take a few minutes this week to check these three things.
🛠 Weekly Home Maintenance Check
This week take 5 minutes to check these:
1. Check Your HVAC Filter
Pull the filter out.
Check the size printed on the edge (example: 16×25×1).
If it looks gray or dusty, it’s time to replace it.
2. Test Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Press the test button on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure the alarm sounds. Replace batteries if needed.
3. Test GFCI Outlets
Press the “Test” button on GFCI outlets (usually found in kitchens, bathrooms, and garages). The outlet should immediately shut off power.
Then press “Reset” to restore power. If it doesn’t trip or reset properly, the outlet may need to be replaced.
⚡ 10-Second Fix
Check the pressure gauge on your fire extinguisher. The needle should sit in the green zone. If it’s low, the extinguisher may need replacement.
🧰 Tool I Actually Use
A simple outlet tester instantly shows whether outlets are wired correctly and functioning safely. It’s one of the easiest ways to quickly check electrical issues in your home.
💰 Tool Deal of the Week
If you ever need to run wire through a wall for outlets, cameras, or thermostats, fish tape makes it much easier. This Southwire one is currently about 30% off, making it a great inexpensive tool to have around.
Next Week
Next week I’ll show you how to:
• Check dryer vents for dangerous lint buildup
• Inspect outdoor hose bibs for leaks
• Check deck boards for rot or loose screws
PS: If you found this useful, forward it to someone who owns a home.
